Biography

Born and raised in a small town on the South Shore of Massachusetts, Valerie Barretto has had a lifelong passion for music and theater. From her early involvement in school plays, band, and chorus, to earning a degree in Classical Vocal Performance from the University of Massachusetts, Valerie has remained deeply connected to music throughout her life.

Now recognized as a rising singer-songwriter, Valerie shares, “I’ve always been drawn to the raw, gritty storytelling style of music. That’s what I strive to bring into my songwriting. Above all, I want to be known for my lyrics—for telling stories in a way that stays with people. I want to help redefine what country music can be.”

Valerie released her debut original album, Hurt & Healing, in September 2022. Reflecting on its impact, she noted, “I think a lot of people will relate to the lyrics and connect with the songs.” The album’s success led to two award nominations in 2023: “Rising Star: Massachusetts” at the New England Music Awards and “Country Act of the Year” at the Boston Music Awards.

In August 2024, Valerie released her second record, The Lucky Ones EP, which earned her three separate award nominations, including Song of the Year for her standout single, “Rattlesnake Road.” Reflecting on the project, she shared, “It’s a completely different feel from my first album. It’s stripped down, raw, and honest—storytelling about adventure, life, love, loss, and friendship.” The Lucky Ones EP is now available on all major streaming platforms.

Outside of music, Valerie enjoys traveling, horseback riding, biking, paddleboarding, spending time with friends, and a good old-fashioned. “Life’s too short not to laugh, be weird, and have fun,” she says with a smile.
